Invisalign®: Modern and attractive orthodontic treatment for busy adults, savvy teens alike

Worldwide, it’s estimated that at least two of every four children and adolescents will develop malocclusion at some stage in their childhood. Malocclusion refers to imbalances between the upper and lower teeth. When you close your mouth, the opposing teeth may not line up correctly. This is commonly due to crowding, which may arise when there is not enough room for the teeth. The upper and lower jaws themselves may not be properly aligned, too.

Today, adults account for 25% of the total number of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Favero Family Dental in Denton, Texas, proudly provides Invisalign®, a modern alternative to conventional braces for both busy adults and savvy teens.

Comfortable and discreet treatment

Conventional braces are fixed or secured to the teeth. They can only be adjusted or removed by your dentist or orthodontist. Modern “fixed” braces are not as weighty, and their brackets and wires may be color-matched to better blend in with the rest of the smile. However, certain attributes remain and may not be attractive to many patients; for instance, more trips to the dentist’s office are required for treatment to progress (the wires must be tightened by your doctor). This can be pretty time-consuming.

Furthermore, since the braces cannot be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, patients must learn how to chew foods with them and how to brush and floss around their braces. Nutrition can suffer. For fear of breaking wires and other delicate components, certain foods must be avoided. If oral hygiene is not maintained, braces-wearers are at increased risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease.

With Invisalign®, patients avoid these challenges. Invisalign® straightens the teeth and corrects “bad bites” with a series of oral appliances (“aligner trays”). The trays are made from transparent, smooth, and flexible plastic. They are custom-designed to fit your mouth. You wear them at all times, only removing them during meals and when cleaning your teeth and gums.

Wear each aligner in the correct order and for the allotted time as directed by one of our talented dentists, Dr. Khourschid Favero or Dr. Stephen Blake Favero. In around 12 months, on average, patients achieve or restore their evenly-spaced teeth. Well-positioned teeth support an attractive and balanced smile and are generally healthier (because they are easier to clean!).

Invisalign FAQs

If you are interested in a perfectly aligned smile, you might have encountered Invisalign treatment. Since it’s a relatively new orthodontic system, you may have several questions about Invisalign aligners. To find answers to your questions, please keep reading the FAQs section below.

Invisalign is an advanced orthodontics system that uses plastic, removable aligners to straighten your teeth. Instead of wires and brackets synonymous with traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are minimally visible, aligning your smile without disrupting your daily life.

Your Invisalign treatment journey starts with a consultation with a certified dentist. The dentist examines your teeth, bite, and overall oral health to ensure you are the right candidate for Invisalign.

Then, we digitally scan your teeth to create a 3D rendering of your smile. Next, we use Invisalign software to predict how and when each tooth moves to optimal alignment. Invisalign allows you to see your results even before the actual treatment; it’s more like “see before you buy.”

When you receive your aligners, you should wear them for 20-22 hours daily to complete your treatment within the predicted timeline. Also, you’ll change your aligners every two weeks to the next in line, gradually moving your teeth to the desired alignment.

Invisalign is designed to accommodate your everyday life, so it comes with minimal disruptions. Although you must wear your aligners almost full time, you can remove them when eating or cleaning teeth for an undisrupted life. Furthermore, since the aligners are discreet in nature, you can enjoy your professional and personal life without interruptions.

Invisalign treatment is always faster than traditional braces in most cases. The typical treatment duration ranges from 12 to 18 months, but milder cases can be addressed in as little as six months! However, to ensure your aligners work within the predicted timeline, you must wear them as directed by your doctor.

The many benefits of Invisalign include:

  • Fewer dental visits
  • Discreet treatment
  • Comfortable orthodontics
  • Metal-free alternative
  • Undisrupted oral hygiene
  • No dietary restrictions
  • Removable convenience

Do you have crooked, overcrowded, or gapped teeth? Or perhaps you have a bite issue, such as an overbite or underbite? You are a prime candidate for Invisalign. Other qualities of potential Invisalign users include:

  • Compliance with wearing trays 20-22 hours daily
  • Must be in good oral health (free from decay and infections)
  • Must commit to good oral hygiene

Caring for your aligners is simple. Brush them gently with an Invisalign cleaner or fluoride toothpaste. Rinse them with warm water (never use hot water) and store them in a dry case when not in use. Additionally, always brush your teeth before wearing your aligners to avoid staining.
