Truly caring dental care starts with consistent, routine checkups!
At Favero Family Dental, we take our time during each appointment. While our dentists, Dr. Khourschid Favero and Dr. Stephen Blake Favero, see you on time and promptly, you never feel hurried. We don’t rush to move on to the next patient. We get to know you as a person, not just a patient — beyond your needs from an oral health perspective. Similarly, we appreciate that the oral health journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Our relationships with individuals and their families are built on a foundation of routine care and visits to our office in Denton, Texas.Â
What we mean when we say “routine”
By now, you hopefully get the sense that we view you as a unique, one-of-a-kind individual. So, each visit and interaction with Dr. Khourschid Favero or Dr. Stephen Blake Favero and our team is also one of a kind. Â
With that being said, the “standard” routine visit (or “dental checkup“) is scheduled twice per year, around once every six months. These six-month visits generally start with a thorough dental cleaning by one of our dentists. They are skilled, careful, and kind. They gently remove surface stains, bacteria, plaque, and plaque build-up (“tartar” or “calculus”) from the teeth and at the gum line. Even the most conscientious tooth-brushers and flossers cannot remove all the plaque that constantly forms on the teeth. Furthermore, hardened plaque is stubborn. Tartar cannot be removed with a regular toothbrush and other store-bought products.
Our patients appreciate that we genuinely engage with them as partners in their oral health and well-being. We encourage questions or concerns. Our recommendations are tailored products to care for their unique needs, such as hard-to-reach teeth or tricky spots underneath bridges. They can even show you how to use special products, such as floss threaders or interdental brushes. Techniques can be demonstrated to step up your oral hygiene game at home! Trust us; your smile will thank you.
Typically, the cleaning is followed by a comprehensive exam conducted by one of our dentists. They are looking for subtle or early-stage signs of dental or oral disease. These problems could include abnormal discoloration, patches, and other symptoms that may be indicative of precancerous lesions or oropharyngeal cancers. What cannot be seen with the naked eye may be pinpointed with diagnostic technologies that produce detailed images of even the smallest areas of the mouth, jaws, and face.
Depending on what we find, professional preventative services may be in order. For example, both children and adults alike can benefit from dental sealants. These thin, safe coverings are applied quickly as a liquid to decay-prone back teeth. In turn, the sealants “seal out” all the bad stuff (i.e., harmful bacteria) and protect premolars and molars from the risks of developing dental damage.
Additionally, risk factors may be identified that make you a good candidate for more frequent checkups. You may be more vulnerable to developing oral cancer, gum disease, and tooth decay due to factors such as:
- Smoking
- Vaping
- Use of tobacco products
- Excessive alcohol use
- Nutritional challenges
- Challenges to good oral hygiene at home
- Overall health; pre-existing conditions such as diabetes
- Family history
Also, patients with active gum disease may need to undergo nonsurgical periodontal therapy. Root planing and scaling are characterized as a “deep cleaning,” or alternative to the standard, 6-month professional cleaning. It involves removing toxins and tartar from underneath the gum line and softening the rough root surfaces that tend to attract bacterial plaque.
Routine dental care or visits to Favero Family Dental in Denton, TX, are the backbone of preventive and general dentistry. These visits protect the mouth from harmful conditions and the need for invasive, costly, and time-consuming restorative care. Call (940) 566-2847 to schedule yours today!
